Training and consultancyAbout us
Roland Caulcutt and several associate consultants offer training and consultancy in applied statistics, performance improvement and human dynamics. Much of our current work is focused on consultancy support for Six Sigma implementation and blackbelt training. Another strength of our multi-disciplinary team is training in "Consultancy Skills" for statisticians and for process improvement specialists.

ManufacturingOur Consultants
Roland Caulcutt has worked in several manufacturing companies and three universities as a trainer and statistical consultant. He has written four, very readable, books on the application of statistics in business and industry. In 1998 he was awarded the Royal Statistical Society Greenfield Medal in recognition of his service to industry. All of our associate consultants have extensive, but complementary, experience in business performance improvement. Each is well known in his/her own field of applied statistics, business management or human dynamics.

Six Sigma
If you are considering embarking on a Six Sigma initiative, we can train your blackbelts and greenbelts. We have carried out such training, very effectively, in several organisations. However, a Six Sigma initiative should not be undertaken without careful consideration of the unavoidable costs and the possible benefits. We offer a coherent portfolio of services, which will help you to design all the support processes, without which the money spent on extensive training could be wasted.

We adopt a pragmatic approach, which enables the training and support to be tailored to your companies needs. Our learner-friendly teaching of statistics is renowned, and our experience in process improvement and human dynamics enables us to maintain a focus on your company objectives

Consultancy Skills
Many employees in larger organisations could be described as internal consultants. These would include many statisticians and a host of process improvement specialists such as Six Sigma blackbelts. By definition, a consultant does not have the power to change the process or the situation that he/she is investigating, unlike the client, who does have such power. Thus the consultant must rely on his/her ability to persuade or influence the client.

To be effective in this role, the consultant must have some understanding of the difficulties that arise when different personality types attempt to communicate and to work together. Some appreciation of one’s own psychological needs, and those of the client, is also required if both parties are to cooperate in the pursuit of company objectives.

Our one-day and three-day courses in "Consultancy Skills" are based on a pragmatic approach to human dynamics. Short lectures support the demonstration of proven ways of working, in a supportive and highly interactive environment. The longer course offers more opportunity to observe and to practice these important skills.
